President Jacob Zuma has announced that there will be no university fee increase next year.

"On the matter at hand, we agreed that there will be a 0% increase of university fees in 2016," he said.
Zuma has spent the morning meeting with university Vice-Chancellors and student leaders to discuss proposed fee hikes at universities that has led to nationwide protests.
He says he has listened to the concerns raised by both parties and some of the issues will be looked at in the longer term.
"The meeting agreed that government needs to lead a process that goes wider than fees, looking at the Higher Education sector," he said.
Zuma says consensus has also been reached on exams.
"It was agreed that the Vice-Chancellors will extend the time for the examinations period to compensate for the time lost," he said.
A number of universities earlier this week announced that exams at their institutions have been postponed until further notice.
