Black Friday: Consumer rights explained

With Black Friday just two days away, consumers are being encouraged to know their rights before they rush out to hunt for specials.
Black Friday, which has fast-gained popularity in South Africa in recent years - originated in the US, after the American Thanksgiving holiday.
Consumer journalist, Wendy Knowler, says as with every other sale, the usual Consumer Protection Act rights apply for consumers.

"Just because you've bought on a sale doesn't mean if it's proved to be defective you have no right to take it back. Within six months you can take something that's defective back for your choice of refund, replacement or a repair - so don't let any company that's holding a sale tell you otherwise," she said.
Knowler says, however, the rules do not apply to goods that have no defects.
