Siya Kolisi opens up about growing up hungry

Wednesday, 17 October marks International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, a day to observe the need to do what we can to rid the world of poverty. With poverty comes hunger and starvation - two very important areas that many organisations like Global Citizens are working hard to combat.

It was announced recently that rugby star Siya Kolisi has joined in the fight to put an end to hunger by joining Global Citizens: Mandela 100 advocates.

In case you didn't know, the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 is a free event taking place in honour of Nelson Mandela’s centenary celebration. It will be happening on Sunday, 2 December 2018 at the FNB Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg.

He took to his Twitter to share his story: "As a child, I knew what it was to be hungry. I'm proud to stand with @GlblCtzn and call on world leaders — especially @UKenyatta @NAkufoAddo @MagufuliJP @EdgarCLungu @APMutharika — to invest in tackling malnutrition and stunting. See you at Mandela 100? #BeTheGeneration ✊✊✊"

What a fantastic initiative, and it's always so refreshing to see legends such as Kolisi standing up for a truly worthy cause.
