ECR’s top 5 tips for a good night's rest

Catch some Zzzz's with ease...

A good night’s rest brings a day of content. Waking up early can be hard - take it from our East Coast Breakfast team and super early riser, Mike V.
From waking up at the crack of dawn to being out and about in “the middle of the night”, being an early-riser is like a lone wolf. Some days you may ache and desire to stay in bed for just a few more minutes, but having a good night’s rest can be a game-changer.
Here are East Coast Radio’s top five tips on a good night's rest:
1. Sleep Hygiene
Make sure that your sleeping environment is consistent, cool, pitch-black, and far away from any peripheral noise.
2. Try to avoid a nap from becoming a week-ruining sleep
You may need to shut your eyes for a few minutes during the daytime hours, but a lengthy sleep which exceeds an hour might make it harder to catch some Zzz’s that night. It could potentially throw your routine off.
3. Do some exercise but not too late
Give yourself a couple of hours post your exercise to wind down. The adrenaline you have worked up while exercising can pose as a challenge when falling asleep.
4. Put your phone away
You, yes, you, the one reading this. The 10-minute limit you promise yourself can easily become an hour. Your phone can be a slippery slope that fails to allow your brain to lull into a sleepy kind of mood.
5. Don’t over-indulge in coffee
Relying too much on caffeine doesn’t actually wake you up; it simply dulls your sensitivity to sleepiness.
It’s all about habit. Once you get a routine going that works for you, the sunrise will be a little brighter, the coffee will taste a little better, and the headaches will fade away.
We hope that these tips help with your journey to becoming the best version of yourself in the AM.
Good night, sleep tight.
