Crimewatch: New smash & grab hotspot
Updated | By Staff Writer
In today's Crimewatch we've got news on a new smash and grab hotspot and a Tanzanite stone scam.

Four guys in Durban are posing as businessmen who are interested in buying items, in this case solar panels, for Zimbabwe. During the 'import' negotiations one of them pulls out a Tanzanite stone, convince all present to test the Tanzanite and then tries to sell it to them. The solar panels (or other products) are totally forgotten. Please watch out.
Pamela emailed to report a smash and grab on Wakesleigh Road during peak hour traffic. It happened to her last Friday afternoon while on the way home from work. One young guy, who had been loitering on the side of the road with another guy, was responsible. He smashed the glass with a rock and tried to steal the handbag on lap of the female passenger in the front. She hung on to it and the guy gave up and ran off. Pamela believes the area is a hotspot and has called on police to patrol it. Please keep all valuables locked in the boot when driving.
A listener emailed to report that their vehicle had been stolen from the UKZN Westville campus parking lot on Monday during the day. It was a 2005 Toyota Corolla. If you park on campus, please be vigilant and make sure your vehicle is fully secured.
