Couple’s dream trip turns into nightmare
Updated | By Sihle Mthembu

Picture this, you and the bae save up for months to go on your dream trip.
You quit your jobs and say your goodbyes as you embark on a once in a life time opportunity around the world.
This is exact what happened to South African couple, Chanel Cartell and Stevo Dirnberger.
They have been keeping us updated with their dream trip around the world via their blog, How far away from home.
Only problem is that, it’s not all sunshine and roses after 6 months.
Chanel took to the blog to say “After being gone exactly 6 months, I feel it necessary we share the uglier side of our trip.
It’s not all ice-creams in the sun and pretty landscapes.
Nooooo, so far, I think we’ve tailed 135 toilets scrubbed, 250 kilos of cow dung spread, 2 tons of rocks shovelled, 60 metres of pathway laid, 57 beds made, and I cannot even remember how many wine glasses we have polished.”
All of this because they need to keep making money while they travel.
They eat jam crackers and sometimes have to lug their bags from hotel to hotel because they can’t afford the bus.
I love this couple’s dedication to making their dreams come true, by whatever means needed, even scrubbing dirty toilets.
Despite the difficulty of their travels, the couple still regularly updates their instagram followers about the more beautiful side of their trip.
