East Coast Radio Sportswave reporter and Breakfast Stack anchor, Mak Dlamini, has caught his first fish.

Mak made his fishing debut this morning and caught both mackerel and maasbanker.

He was guided by the FreeSpooltv crew and his more experienced fishing colleagues Andre Bloem and Alain Tardin.

Mak later hooked into what we suspected was a kingfish.

The kingfish was then chomped by what must have been a shark of around 100kgs or more.

It gulped the approximately 5kg kingfish in one gulp and sped off with Mak at the other end of the line.

The rookie battled bravely, but was getting a hiding and some of us felt relief when the shark managed to bite through the line.

Mak did not share our relief, declaring himself disappointed that the fight had ended at that point.

His contest with the shark was the last serious action of the day.

Despite having superb live bait and some shiny lures, we failed to atttract another bite after the shark encounter.

The FreeSpool boys did give us the perfect excuse to return to that spot off Umdloti very soon - Big Mak wants the big one that got away.

Big Mak shows off his first fishing success - a maasbanker that broke his fishing duck.
