Stage 2 load shedding in place ‘until Thursday’

Eskom has announced that stage 2 load shedding will be implemented on Tuesday.

The power utility says blackouts will be implemented during evening peak periods between 4pm and 10pm. 


It's due to a delay in the return of generation units after a number of unplanned breakdowns.


Eskom spokesperson, Daphne Mokwene says this will be in place until 10pm on Thursday.

"The primary reason for this setback is the delay in returning several units from planned maintenance. These delays, coupled with an unplanned capacity loss that has now temporarily exceeded 13,000 MW, align with the risk scenarios shared in our Winter 2025 Outlook.

 

"Eskom is currently emerging from an intensive maintenance cycle, which is essential for long-term reliability but temporarily reduces system flexibility and resilience. As a result, the grid is more sensitive to unexpected disruptions. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this causes."
