It says seven of the province’s 55 municipalities received clean audits, a slight increase from three in the previous year.

" We hope that this number obviously continues to increase from a clean audit perspective as it demonstrates that the municipalities and officials are able to present a credible set of financial statements," said the AG's business unit leader Nomalungelo Mkhize.

Mkhize briefed the COGTA and SCOPA committees in the KZN legislature on the Municipal Finance Management Act audit outcomes.

She said that although the audit is complete, there was a delay in receiving financial statements from Msunduzi Municipality. .

" All our municipalities that we audit, all of them submitted their financial statements on time for us to start the audits.

"And it was on the completion of the audit that we had the delay from Msunduzi Municipality because of a dispute that we had to conclude, and then their audit was signed in the month of February."
