SA’s most loved cat Skabenga dies
Updated | By Newswatch and Tsakane Mhlongo
It's a sad farewell to one of
KZN and South Africa's most famous felines.

Skabenga, the Oyster Box's resident Tabby cat, has passed on.
Joanne Hayes, the hotel's PR manager, says Skebenga was a stray cat that showed at the Umhlanga establishment around two decades ago and stayed.
"He had his favourite places to sleep, and his favourite places to lie. If you've been to the Oyster Box and you have entered through the front door, you would have often seen him laying in the porter share area right in the middle of the passageway."
She says Skabenga had a flair for drama and enjoyed the spotlight.
"Every time we have had anyone famous at the Oyster Box so 2010, during the soccer World Cup, we had the Man United team here, and when Princess Charlene got married and she had her wedding celebrations at the Oyster Box. Whenever we have a wedding at the Oyster Box, we always put a red carpet out for the bride and Skabenga always goes and lies on the red carpet."
Hayes say while they are still planning how to remember him, they had been preparing to celebrate Skabenga's 20th birthday in September.
