The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) says a major, multi-billion rand construction project between KwaMashu and Umdloti is set to wrap up in 2026.

Engineers are widening both sides of the N2.
Structural rehabilitation and electrical work are also taking place along the stretch.
Sanral's N2 programme manager Mabuyi Mhlanga took the media on a tour on Wednesday.

She said the route's being expanded to five lanes.
"We are making sure that we ease the congestion on the road and also upgrade the road so that it is at it's utmost maintained state.
"On the particular section where you have seen construction, the project itself is R1.4 billion but the upgrades on the N2 from Illovo to Umdloti is estimated at about R20 billion."
