Rural Howick school robbed of tech equipment
Updated | By Tsakane Mhlongo
The KwaZulu-Natal Education Department says it's saddened by the latest robbery at a rural school in Howick, and does not have immediate funds to replace what was taken.

Laptops and IT equipment was stolen from the Sibongubomvu Combined School this week.
The tech was donated to the school by government last month.
It was in the hopes of eventually launching a coding and robotics lab last month.
KZN Education spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says the rise in robberies at schools in the province has made it difficult to introduce new subjects to pupils in rural areas.

Mahlambi says it's the students who will suffer.
"It is going to disturb them now - the practicles. Teachers will only teach them theory and they won't be able to use the gadgets."
He's made a plea to communities not to buy stolen equipment.
"It they see (the stolen equipment) they must report it to the police because instead of topping up, we have to start afresh."
