Preliminary report released for fatal Empangeni crash

Transport officials have released a preliminary report into
what led to a deadly crash near Empangeni in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday morning.

Eight people were killed after a tow truck collided with a Light Delivery vehicle.
KZN Transport spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya, says the vehicle was transporting 24 members of the Zion Christian Church.
" A tow truck struck the rear end of the Hyundai Hyundai H-1, resulting in fatalities and serious injuries.
"Those who were injured have been taken to hospitals and the MEC has wished them a speedy recovery.
"He has assembled a dedicated team from his office to liaise with the church and families during this difficult period."

Sibiya says they are heartbroken as the crash occurred on Mother’s Day and have established that most of the deceased are mothers.
" Losing a mother is a deeply painful experience that marks the radical change of the family's life."
Authorities have confirmed that the N2 has been reopened.
