PMB girl freed after being stuck in washing machine for an hour

It was all hands on deck at a home in Pietermaritzburg, when emergency crews were called to help free a child who had become stuck inside a washing machine.

The 11-year-old girl had stood on top of the machine to hang up washing in her grandparents' backyard on Sunday, when she fell through the lid of the top loader.
ER24 spokesperson Ross Campbell says the child was stuck for an hour before paramedics and firefighters were called to the home in France Phase 5 Extension of Edendale just after 6pm.
"The girl's lower legs had folded behind her. Members of the community had already helped to strip the outside of the machine and a combination of power and hand tools had to be used to crimp and cut through the barrel to free the girl. Once free a medical assessment was done and luckily the girl was found to have suffered no physical injuries," says Campbell.
