Man in court for possession of rhino horn valued at R1,2m

KZN Ezemvelo Wildlife has welcomed the arrest of a man in Pietermaritzburg, who was allegedly transporting rhino horn estimated to be worth R1,2 million.

The 30-year-old was nabbed along Orthmann Road on Friday.
Members of the Pietermaritzburg Flying Squad and K9 Unit confiscated the horn, which weighed just over a kilo.
The man's appearing in court on Monday.

Ezemvelo's Musa Mntambo says every arrest helps strengthen the fight against rhino poaching.
"We hope that this serves as a lesson to other poachers who attempt to poach on our game reserves. We trust that this arrest will result in a conviction."
