Man fleeing robbery struck by car in Phoenix

Investigations are under way after a man was killed while allegedly fleeing from robbers in Phoenix, north of Durban.

The incident occurred on the R102 in the Cornubia area on Friday.
KZN VIP spokesperson, Gareth Naidoo, says the man had been running from three knife-wielding suspects when he was struck by a car.
"On arrival, KZN VIP members secured the scene where a male pedestrian had tragically lost his life. The victim’s body lay on the busy roadway, prompting efforts to safeguard the area and prevent further harm.

"Shortly after, distraught community members from Cornubia arrived, many visibly shaken and some armed with pangas and other objects. They reported that the victim, a local breadwinner, had been walking home from work with others when three unidentified male suspects attempted to rob them.
"In a desperate attempt to flee, the group ran across the roadway. Tragically, one of the victims was struck by an oncoming vehicle and killed."
