Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
An investigation's begun into the non-delivery of social relief in the form of food parcels - by non-profit groups in KwaZulu-Natal.

The province's Social Development Department says this quarter, it allocated around R25 million to NPOs to assist needy communities hard hit by COVID-19.
But, the department's Mhlabunzima Memela says some families complained to them, saying they received no assistance.
He says they were also told that some NPOs ran out of money.

Memela says they'll look into how these groups spent funds, meant for the poor and vulnerable.
"We owe it to the people of KwaZulu-Natal and we have to account for each and every cent that has been used.
"We are hoping the probably this week, we will have a clear indication that will give us an understanding how many food parcels that have been delivered in the province in those two specific months
"Because some people have been saying this food parcels have not been sent to the people or the department has failed to explain it."
