KZN police on high alert ahead of Nedbank Cup final

KwaZulu-Natal police say they are on high alert
ahead of Saturday’s much-anticipated Nedbank Cup final between Orlando Pirates
and Kaizer Chiefs.

Deputy Police Commissioner Phumelele Makoba said they are tracking individuals allegedly planning to disrupt the match following a ticketing debacle earlier this week.
A server crash on Monday caused a surge in ticket sales, which exceeded the Moses Mabhida Stadium's capacity.
Over 10,000 extra tickets were sold, with the stadium’s capacity only able to squeeze in 51,000 supporters.

Makoba said police have met with the Premier Soccer League to address safety concerns, saying no lawlessness will be tolerated.
She also confirmed that over 33% of the tickets went to fans in KZN, dismissing claims on social media that local supporters were sidelined.

"We have noted a number of misinformation and inflammatory messages going around various social media platforms with some people recruiting others to stage a protest on our route and around the stadium, with others vowing to force their way into the stadium without tickets," said Makoba.
"Incitement of violence is a criminal offence and we are appealing to our people to refrain from making statements that may incite violence and lawlessness."
