KZN Grade R teacher tells of struggle amid unpaid salary
Updated | By Tsakane Mhlongo
A Grade R teacher in KwaZulu-Natal who has not been paid her April salary says she's now resorted to borrowing money to support her family.

Nobuhle Mnomiya, from Kranskop, is among the many reception year teachers in the province who are still waiting for their pay from KZN Education.
The department assured the educators that payments would be made last Friday.
Mnomiya says this hasn't happened.
" Our children, they can't go to school because we can't afford to pay. Lots of things have been stopped, it’s even hard to go to work because you don't have any money. Hard even to go to borrow money from someone because we don't even know when you're going get your salary."

Nomarashiya Caluza, who's with teachers' union SADTU in KZN, says they met with the department on Monday, and made a request for a special payment run.
"That did not happen. Yesterday, we checked with the department whether they've been able to have a special run, which would've meant that these Grade R practitioners will get their salary. They were not granted that special run by the office of the premier, so they remain unchanged."
