Hunt for brazen Gateway jewellery store robbers
Gateway Theatre of Shopping says police are trying to track down a gang of 10 robbers that hit a jewellery store at the Umhlanga mall on Wednesday.
A security guard was shot and wounded before the gunmen made off with two trolleys laden with their loot from Damjee Jewellers.
The robbers, armed with heavy-duty machine guns and handguns, stormed the store after 2pm and ordered staff to lie on the ground.
Shopping centre management's released a statement to say that it's working with investigators to find the group.
It's stressed that the safety and security of customers and tenants are important.
Some tenants told Newswatch on Wednesday security at the mall felt lax.
Meanwhile, a security guard was shot in the commotion was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
