Herd of elephants escape from the iThala Game Reserve

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife has confirmed the escape of a herd of elephants at its iThala Game Reserve in Vryheid north of KZN last night.

It says preparations to herd the elephants back are underway.
Its urged communities to refrain removing the fence in game reserves-- as this puts locals in grave danger of being attacked by wild animals.
Spokesperson Musa Mntambo says some of the elephants have already been spotted near Pongola..
"Arrangements have been made to use the helicopter to hack them back. The pilot is currently waiting for the whether to clear before heading them back."
“The elephant often escape two separate routes, the first one is the Pongolo river, the second one is an area called Kwabanakile where the community removed the fence and prevented Ezemvelo officials from doing their work."
"The board chairperson from KwaZulu Natal at Conservation services has appealed to those who continue cutting the parameter fence of Ohluhluwe Umfolozi park to desist from stilling and cutting the fence."
