12 pupils, driver killed in Gauteng crash

Twelve schoolchildren and their driver have lost their lives in an accident in Merafong on Gauteng's West Rand.

Seven others have been hurt.
The children were being taken to school on Wednesday morning when the minibus they were in was hit by a bakkie between Kokosi and Wedela near Fochville.
Gauteng education spokesperson Steve Mabona says the private scholar transport overturned and caught alight.

"The department has already dispatched its psycho-social support team to the school to provide immediate support and to work closely with the school and affected families.
"Councilling services will be made available to all learners and staff members to help them cope with the emotional aftermath of this tragedy. MEC Chiloane will be visiting the scene of the accident and both schools today."
