Protest over elective conference must be investigated: ANCYL

The ANC Youth League's leadership in KwaZulu-Natal is calling on its mother body to investigate those who it claims sought to bring the party into disrepute by marching to its provincial office in Durban last week.

The city centre came to a stand-still when hundreds of people took to the streets, disputing the results of the ANC's recent KZN elective conference in Pietermaritzburg.

Sihle Zikalala was elected provincial chairperson.

The youth league's Thami Ngubane acknowledged the right for members to lodge disputes but said doing so should be done through the proper processes.

"It's clear that there was some level of coordination and it was also well-resourced. We're told that in some of the regions there were about six buses and so on.

"We believe that there was money that was paid to hire those buses. So, you can see that it was well coordinated," he said.
