The NSPCA says it is investigating after a roving billboard was spotted in Johannesburg advertising a dog-fighting event.
Photographs have emerged of the billboard carried on a trailer behind a double cab bakkie, features a disturbing photograph of two pitbull terriers named Thor and Nitro.
The billboard was first seen this morning parked alongside the busy William Nicol highway, and clearly stated that those wanting to attend had 48 hours in which to buy their tickets.
The Association's Wendy Wilson stressed that any form of dog fighting is against the law.
She says there's been an alarming increase in the practice in recent months.
"We've had a phenomenal increase in pitbull fighting reports and injured dogs in the last couple of months - it's not only the people who own the dogs who are committing a crime - it's absolutely everybody involved.
"It's people who are watching the crime, those who are own the house, renting the property, who are renting the property and those who are owning, breeding, selling or importing dogs for fighting purposes. Everybody is responsible and everyone can go to jail," she said.
