#MH370: Debris found by KZN teen possibly from Boeing 777 - Investigators

Australian authorities investigating the MH370 disappearance say a piece of debris recently found by a KZN family in Mozambique appears to be from a Boeing 777.

Candace Lotter of Wartburg contacted the Australian Transport Safety Bureau and sent them pictures of the debris that her son Liam stumbled upon while walking with his cousin on a beach in Inhambane in December.

They acted after seeing media reports last week about another discovery of debris possibly linked to MH370 on the Mozambican coast.

Candace Lotter says she told the Australian investigators Liam found the part on a beach between Guinjata and Paindane.

"When asked how we transported it back, I had to embarrassingly confess that we had put it on the back of our boat in the open air. We have since been asked to treat is as important evidence as there might be minute traces of evidence on it that can easily be lost through handling. It would be wonderful if the panel is from the missing MH370 so that progress can be made with the investigation," she said.

Liam Lotter says he picked up the object out of curiosity, but had forgotten about it until now.

"It's quite interesting because it's been missing for [about] two years and I'm surprised that no one has found more of it, like life jackets and stuff like that. How can you not find something so big in the Indian Ocean? I never realised until I saw the article. I just thought it could maybe be something, but then forgot about it," he said.

The South African Civil Aviation Authority has officially been approached by Malaysia and Australia and will collect the object from Wartburg.

They will then send it to the Asian country for identification before it is handed over to investigators at the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
