Metro Police actively monitor Durban bus strike

EThekwini Metro Police say they will not hesitate to impound buses that are obstructing the roadway.
An early morning bus blockade by municipal bus drivers in central Durban and surrounding areas has caused major traffic on several routes coming into the city.
While many buses have been removed, there are still heavy backlogs in areas including Umlazi near Megacity, the M4 near the old airport, the M25 and Inanda.

The Metro Police Spokesperson Sibonelo Mchunu says they are looking into the situation.
"We are monitoring the situation until the roads are clear. However, we will enforce the law, we will prosecute those individuals that are breaking the law and are causing congestion," he said.
It's believed the bus drivers have not been paid for the month of January.
Last month, drivers staged a similar demonstration on major highways including the N2 and N3 after bus operator Tansnat failed to pay them their December salaries and bonuses.
EThekwini eventually stepped in to pay the employees their outstanding salaries and bonuses.
