Man critical after North Coast attempted hijacking
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
A truck driver is receiving treatment in hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound in an attempted hijacking.
The man was targeted on the N2 freeway in the vicinity of the Tongaat Toll Plaza on the north coast.
IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says details are still sketchy at the moment.
''Paramedics found a male patient shot in the stomach and his arm. He is in a critical and unstable condition and was rushed to a private hospital close by.
''He is in the casualty and he's going to be transferred to another facility. Details are very sketchy at the moment, the guy was severely traumatised and didn't talk much,'' he said.
It's still unclear what the truck had been transporting.
Police confirmed the incident saying a case of attempted carjacking and attempted murder is being investigated.
The suspect fled the scene on foot.
