She's been speaking at the Stanger ML Sultan Secondary school in KwaDukuza where the Sibaya Community Trust today launched the Matric Academic Development Initiative.

The iLembe District Municipality was one of three worst performing districts in the province in the 2015 matric exams.

The province as a whole saw a 9% decrease from 69.7% in 2014 to 60.7%.

Nkonyeni says they're also keeping a close eye on districts like Umzinyathi where problems of group copying were found.

"That entire process was actually attended to by Umalusi and the Department of Basic Education. When they were about to release the results of the investigation, some parents took us to court because they were not satisfied with what was happening there.

"So it became a very protected process. The results are not out yet. The learners were affording the opportunity to rewrite their matric exam and most of them did exactly that," she said.
