Elections 2016: IEC to release final candidate figures next week
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
With about 13 000 councillor-candidates hoping to occupy one of the 1 864 council seats across KwaZulu-Natal after the August elections, the province's Chief Electoral Officer has described the competition as huge and serious.
Mawethu Mosery has been taking part in a pre-poll roundtable hosted by the Diakonia Council of Churches in Durban today.
He says they are working hard to ensure that everything on election day is above board.
''We will make the final numbers known next week on what we are taking forward to the elections. Therefore, we need to take every effort into the work that we do to ensure that the outcome of the elections is acceptable to all the contestants,'' he said.
KZN, as well as other parts of the country, have over the last few months seen a flare up of violent protests due to unhappiness over the nomination of certain councillor hopefuls and recently selected mayoral candidates.
