37 arrested in Kokstad unrest
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Police in Kokstad are keeping a watchful eye on a group of community members who've taken to the streets in a service delivery protest.
On the second day of violent protests, the group from the Shayamoya and Horseshoe areas earlier blockaded roads including the R56 with burning tyres and rubble.
The R56 has since been re-opened.
The police's Nqobile Gwala says yesterday afternoon protesters marched from Bhongweni bridge to the municipal offices where they vandalised property.
"A total of 37 suspects were arrested and detained at Kokstad SAPS. They will appear in the Kokstad Magistrate Court tomorrow on charges of public violence. The police are at the scene monitoring the situation," she said.
