Father's Day with East Coast Radio's dads

Several of our on-air personalities are dads too! We asked them to share their Father's Day stories with us.

Darren Maule spent the best part of his Father's Day at the zoo with his daughter.

“The only way I could make the four- hour walk around the Johannesburg Zoo was to practise my puns and witticisms  – which were mostly lost on my little girl.  I told her that the elephant came over to her because he remembered her from three years ago…because elephants never forget!

The monkeys are easy to find…because they are always ‘hanging around’ and, well, the big cats are just always ‘lion’ around! My favourite, which was completely lost on my small audience, was: “Do you know why the cheetahs always get fed last? Because cheetahs never prosper!”

It’s the little things when you’re with your little one.” – Darren Maule

"For Father’s Day my five-year-old daughter made me a card that read 'I love you Dad'. It’s the first Father’s Day card she’s actually written herself. Words fail to describe how awesome that feels. I am impressed that she’s empowering herself with the power of the written word. The card also included a picture she drew of her and I." - Makhosi Khoza

“Sadly I was working on Father's Day but managed to spend all of Monday with my baby girl watching her take her first two steps alone. It was my first year as a dad and we spent some time looking at pics of her birth and remembering the trying time it was after 46 days in NNICU. She brings a tear to my eye and a smile to my face every time I look at her pictures.” – Cameron Claasens

“My wife and sister-in-law treated me to an awesome supper and a Lindt 90% dark chocolate. I was also allowed to watch more soccer than usual and the three kids all produced cards and kisses for their lucky father.” – Andre Bloem

“Father's Day is about remembering our ‘Late Dads’ and celebrating the family we have. Here's a pic of my two daughters Tamara & Tatyana Williams. – Trevor Williams
