Face it; there's nothing like experiencing the class and luxury of a hotel room. There is just something about that hotel scent, fresh linen, and squeaky clean bathrooms which are enough to draw anyone in.

Unfortunately, in today's day and age, hotels can be expensive and are considered a treat for many of us.

Many hotels use various visually-appealing techniques which draw guests in and leave them with a sense of "I never want to leave and go back to my boring room at home."

If your bedroom turns your smile upside down, maybe it's time to give it a bit of a luxurious revamp? But there's no need to break the bank. We've found three ways to jazz up your room and make it into a hotel-inspired one.

Long, flowy drapes

The more fabric, the better. Long drapes that cover your room's wall create an illusion that you've stepped right back into a hotel. Consider installing a curtain rod onto your ceiling and allow the soft fabric of your choice to flow down against your wall - top to bottom. It also gives an illusion that your room is higher than it looks. Consider going to your local second-hand shop where you're bound to score a bargain on a good pair of drapes, alternatively you could get in touch with a seamstress. The rooms at Indaba Lodge Richards Bay are an excellent example of the perfect curtain look for a room. The hotel uses a wooden box pelmet which allows their drapes to brush against the soft room floor.

Layered looks

Your duvet with two drab pillows wouldn't take your room from good to great. Layering your bed with additional pillows and throws adds a touch of elegance to the room. In addition to them looking good, a bolster pillow is a good option as it also provides excellent neck support. Iron your linen, and puff it out neatly so when you walk into your room, you'll think you've just stepped into a hotel room. Take things a step further like the rooms at Indaba Lodge by throwing a few petals and even a bottle of wine which you can treat yourself to later.

Take your art to greater heights

Personalise your room by adding a touch of art above your bed just like how the hotel rooms do it. Even though you won't get to look at it while you're catching your forty winks, it will definitely add a touch of "je ne sais quoi". A big painting at the top of your bed becomes the focal point of your room, and you could even consider matching it with your room theme, or adding one in that will stand out from the rest. The rectangular-framed prints at Indaba Lodge give their rooms character with a backdrop that allows them to pop and shine brightly.
