World Bank praises eThekwini's handling of virus lockdown

Durban's economic relief efforts during the coronavirus lockdown - have caught the attention of the World Bank.

The international institution has hailed the eThekwini Municipality as a best practice city over this challenging time.
The bank's Competitive Cities Programme says Durban's put in place a range of economic responses to COVID-19.
And the city's been praised for mobilising business support and reinforcing relationships with the private sector.

eThekwini spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela says it's an honour to be recognised by a high profile global institution.
"We did not fold our arms. We have come up with tangible and comprehensive programmes that we do believe will go a long way to assist businesses that are on the receiving end of COVID-19.
"So we are very excited about this, and we are very optimistic that eventually, our businesses are going to be able to take off and operate as normal."
