Festive season tourism boom reaps positive rewards for KZN

eThekwini Municipality’s Festive Season Committee is confident revenue was given a boost over the end-of-year holiday - despite fewer people on the beaches over New Year.
The municipality issued a statement saying over 200 00 people visited the city’s beaches in the first week of the year.

Thousands of holidaymakers returned to their home provinces this weekend – with schools set to open on Wednesday.

The committee’s Sibusiso Mkhwanazi says hotels had a 95% occupancy rate.
"That in itself - even there is a decline - I don't think it has been that drastic in terms of the revenue. The supermarkets were on the buzz as well," he said.
