One person has been killed in a fire that broke out at an informal settlement in the Lamontville area in Durban.
Paramedics and firefighters say they responded to reports of multiple informal dwellings burning early this morning.
KZN Emergency Medical Services Spokesperson Robert McKenzie says firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze before it spread to other homes.
" One person has passed away in this fire and paramedics from KZN EMS treated a lady at the scene of the fire. At this stage, reports from the scene are that as many as seven informal dwellings were involved in the blaze which has since been extinguished.
"The exact cause of the fire is not known at this stage," he said.
