Doctors give single mom a few months to live

When Kayleigh went in for a routine check up, she did not expect to receive this heartbreaking news.

For any parent, the idea of dying and leaving your kids behind is a scary thought. As a single parent, the thought must be too much to comprehend.

This interview was a hard one to hear. Kayleigh, a 24-year-old single mom, went to the doctor to check out a very suspicious mole. Her doctor decided that it would be best to remove the mole by burning it. However, this unfortunately aggravated the situation.

The mole turned into melanoma cancer and this viscous, unforgiving cancer spread rapidly through her system. Due to the high cost of treatments, Kayleigh decided to be put on trial treatments that she so badly needs. Unfortunately, in a few weeks her treatments will run out.

Just today I have an appointment with the gynecologist. It's never a fun excursion, but it's something that has to be done. I went for a walk with a friend of mine early this morning and she shared that the last time she had a check up was about five years ago.

As a partner and particularly a mom, we don't put ourselves on the top of the priority list. Ladies, please take time out to make sure your health is checked out regularly, in particular make sure you check your breast regularly and that you have your annual pap smear. Yes, it's not a glamorous subject, but it's so vitally important. We have to guard and protect our health, it is really such a precious gift.
