Elderly woman killed in freak Durban accident

Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson is on the scene on the M4 in Congella and has told Newswatch what happened.

''A taxi was travelling in the taxi lane on the the extreme right hand side when a mechanical failure on a bakkie resulted in the side shaft of the bakkie travelling in the same direction coming loose. 

''The tyre then bounced on the freeway before ricocheting off the armco barrier and collided with the side of the taxi. Unfortunately one person has passed away that was sitting right at the passenger side - an elderly lady,'' he said.

Jamieson says three other people have been hurt and are being treated by medics. Police and fire service members are also on the scene.
