Test batsman remains critical

Australia Test batsman, Phillip Hughes, remains critically ill in a Sydney hospital.

This after taking a blow to his head while batting in a Sheffield Shield match at the SCG.

Hughes was on 63 when the attempted to hook a rising delivery from Sean Abbott.

The ball struck him on his helmet with significant force and drew blood in the process.

Hughes collapsed moments later and had to be treated on the pitch.

He was later rushed to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

Hughes, who is 25, has represented Australia in 26 Tests, 25 one-day internationals and one T20 international.

He has a Test batting average of 33 and has scored three Test centuries.
