Police monitor taxi fare protests in Ladysmith
Updated | By Nondumiso Zakwe
It is understood the protests started at the weekend.
This morning roads leading in and out of Ezakheni were barricaded with rocks and tyres.
Newswatch has also learnt some businesses were forced to keep their doors shut today as a result of the chaos.
The police's Thulani Zwane says the violent uprising flared up earlier today.
''They blockaded the roads with burning tyres as well as stones. The affected roads include those between Ladysmith and Helpmekaar as well as the road between Ladysmith and Colenso.
''This afternoon the roads are still closed however the municipality is working hard to ensure the roads are cleared,'' he said.
