The 44-year-old suspect handed himself over to Toti police, south of Durban yesterday.
Police say the man is a former Air Force Colonel and MK Veteran.
Thirty-three-year-old Letshego Mohoasa was rushed to hospital after the incident but sadly passed away due to the extensive injuries she sustained.
The suspect allegedly threw the grenades at her following an argument at their home.
Police Spokesperson Thulani Zwane says the man's lawyer handed him over to the police.
"After an extensive investigation, the suspect handed himself over to his lawyer yesterday and the lawyer handed him over to the police. The arrested man is due to appear today in the Durban Magistrates Court - facing charges of murder, attempted murder as well as possession of explosives," he said.
