Updated | By Benedict Ngwenya
A woman and a teenage boy were killed earlier today, and another three were critically injured when two cars crashed on the N2 highway in Harding.
In the second accident on the R102 in Newark north of Durban, two drivers lost their lives after their vehicles were involved in a head-on-collision.
IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says they died before paramedics could help them.
"On arrival of paramedics, both drivers of the vehicles were entrapped in the vehicles and declared by advanced life support paramedics. The passenger of one of the vehicles was in a critical condition, was stabilised on scene. The drivers of both vehicles had to be cut out using the jaws of life by the local fire department," he said.
Meanwhile, motorists are being advised to avoid the N3 near Estcourt as a petrol tanker has overturned there.
