How to wear riding boots

It's not often that it gets cold enough in KZN to rock the riding boot, but it’s always good to invest in a good pair of boots for those chilly days. Brett gives us the riding boot 101.

Being that we live in the beautiful province of KwaZulu-Natal, we are fortunate to be blessed with fairly good weather all year round. That is with the exception of the snow in the Berg.

But still even then our version of cold is never that cold, so we don’t ever really have to think about retiring our flip-flops until next summer because we can still wear them in winter.

Even so, it’s always good to invest in a good pair of boots for the chilly days. As it is, we have seen quite a bit of rain of the past few weeks. And this is only the beginning.

My suggestion to you is to get yourself a riding boot. Riding boots are extremely versatile. You can dress them up or down depending on the occasion.

I suggest getting a leather pair, as they will last you a few years at the very least.

I purchased a pair from Luella last year, but Woolworths is a great option as well. And if you don’t want to make that large purchase, it’s ok – stores like Edgar’s and Mr Price are bound to have a more budget-friendly pair of faux leather boots.

As for colour, I suggest sticking to basics here: black, tan or brown. You won’t go wrong.

Now once you have your boots, you’re either going to wear them with absolutely everything, or you are going to not know how to wear them at all. So, here are a few tips to help you out.

1. Riding boots look amazing with skinny jeans. Team it up with a knitted sweater & you are good to go.
2. Pair your riding boots with a skirt for a more feminine look. And even if you don’t want to go barelegged, you can always wear a pair of stockings too.
3. Wear your riding boots with a pair of leggings & a longer length loose-fitted blouse for a casual cool look.

I hope you find the perfect riding boot to suit your style.

Tweet a pic to @ecr9495 or @brettrobson & show us how you wear them!
