Rescue team faces challenge as search for missing teen continues at KwaDukuza beach
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
Poor weather conditions are hampering today's search and rescue operations for a teenager who got into difficulty in the water at Blythdale beach on the north coast yesterday.
The 19-year-old and a friend - both matric pupils who had been taking photos of each other celebrating the end of their exams - got into trouble late yesterday afternoon.
IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says the second girl only sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene. He says the search was suspended due to poor conditions.
IPSS, police search and rescue and KwaDukuza lifeguards met on the beach again this morning.
The team has experienced some challenges during the search, he adds.
"There are massive sea swells at the moment so we're going to continue on a foot patrol and vehicles on the beach and take it from there to see if the weather clears up a bit later," he said.
