The eight-year-old girl got trapped late yesterday afternoon.

It took emergency services about 45 minutes to free her from the vertical steel pipe.

KZN Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Robert Mckenzie says they managed to put cooking oil inside the pipe and managed to manipulate her legs to free here from the pipe.

"She has been trapped for well over and hour and when she was released from the pipe she was examined by paramedics once freed. It was found that she sustained only minor injuries and she was in a stable condition," he said.

Mckenzie says it's unclear how the girl managed to get stuck - saying their focus at the time was on freeing her safely.

"She was scared as well as quite cold so we had to calm her down and cover her with some blankets inside the pipe. Her parents were also at the scene and were also understandably upset and concerned.

"There was also a large crowd of by-standers that had gathered and assisting paramedics and rescuers," he said.

The little girl sustained only minor injuries.

Meanwhile another eight-year-old girl is receiving treatment after being knocked over in Montclair, south of Durban at around 7am today.

The girl was struck by a car in Radcliffe Road while walking to school.
