SAPS confirms over 500 student arrests since February

The South African Police Service says so far there have been over 567 arrests related to the Fees Must Fall protests -since the beginning of February this year.
The acting national police commissioner, Khomotso Phahlane, has been briefing the media in Pretoria on the policing of the student protests that have been happening at various universities across the country.
He says fromtge arrests, 265 cases have been opened - for charges including public violence and the destruction of property.

"It must make us to ask them questions, seriously,is this how fees are to fall? Why will we want to destroy infrastructure? Why will we want to throw petrol bombs at the police, under the disguise of Fees Must fall?" Phalane said.
