Mtubatuba residents losing patience with municipality over drought relief
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The Mtubatuba Local Municipality, in northern KZN, says it is concerned about the drastic measures communities have resorted to - amid the ongoing drought.
Residents says they are losing patience and confidence in officials' ability to find a suitable solution - which seems to lessen everyday.
Mayor Sgoga Mkhwanazi says residents of the Msani township are drawing water from the Umfolozi River - which has been declared as 'dry'.

Mkhwanazi says others are buying tanks filled with water that is not purified according to the municipality's standards.
"That water is not clean. Therefore, I will say that we are in a disaster really about water. As a mayor on Mtubatuba - I'm even trying to get a right to supply water, and right now I am using our money, and I will apply even nationally if they can direct the funds straight to us as local municipality," he said.
