Matric pupil raped on way to write exams, 'not coping': Education dept

The Department of Education says a matric pupil who was raped last week near Cato Ridge will no longer continue with her final exams this year.
The learner was raped last Wednesday - while on her way to write the English Paper at Banqobile High School in Ntekwa.

She sat for the paper after reporting the rape at a local police station.
The department says she hasn't been coping - leading to the decision to have her not sit for any more exams.
The department's Kwazi Mthethwa says the pupil will continue receiving counselling.
"We will be writing to uMalusi, to request that the learner be allowed an opportunity to write her exams early next year, when supplementary exams take place. We believe this will give her enough time to cope," he said
Police have not yet made arrests.
