Increase in festive season road accidents impacts negatively on KZN blood supply

There's been a significant increase in the number of road accidents over the festive season, and according to the KZN Health Department - this has impacted negatively on resources in some of the province's hospitals.

KZN MEC for Health, Sbonginseni Dhlomo, told Newswatch that the past few days has seen some of the province's hospitals running short of blood.
With everyone geared for various celebrations as they usher in the New Year, Dhlomo's urged people to not drink and drive - as patients who come to hospitals as a result of road accidents could find themselves not getting any blood - should they need it.

He's also commended health employees who have continued to do good work throughout the festive season.
"If people can come to realize that the more accidents we have, the more we stretch the resources of government, clinics and hospitals. We really want to say, yes, it is the festive season, people must continue to enjoy - but they must do so in a way where we don't have accidents," he said.
