Clean-up operations are underway following flash floods in Johanesburg yesterday. Authorities say four people were killed in heavy downpours on the N3 near Linksfield and the OR Tambo International Airport.

The Gauteng provincial government says the floods caused severe damage to vehicles and infrastructure.
"The flash floods affected areas mostly around Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni with a number of vehicles that were trapped on the N3 around the Gillooly's interchange," the statement read.
Two people drowned while two others died in separate car accidents.

"Regrettably four people lost their lives as the result of these flash floods. The Gauteng Provincial Government expresses sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives," the statement said.
Aid organisation, Gift of the Givers has been called in to assist in flood ravaged areas like settlements along the Jukskei River.
The Johannesburg Disaster Management Centre will coordinate government efforts to investigate the extent of damage and any need for assistance.
