Body of drowned man recovered at Durban beach

The body of a 40-year old Phoenix man who drowned at Virginia beach in Durban North, has been recovered.

The body was retrieved this afternoon by police search and rescue teams - following a search that started in the early hours of today.
According to the police, the man had been drinking before he went to the beach where he was washed into the sea while on the pier.

The police's Thembeka Mbhele says an inquest docket has been opened.
"The body of the drowned man was taken to the mortuary. It was identified by the family, because the family was there at the scene at the time he was recovered " she said.
